Formosan Black Bears

Known as Selenarctos Thibetanus Formosanus in scientific name, Formosan Black Bears are specific species in Taiwan as the largest inland creature of Taiwan. A Formosan Black Bear stands 120~150 cm tall and weighs 90~120 kg, or even as heavy as 200kg. As indicated by its name, a Formosan Black Bear is black throughout, bearing a V-shaped with mark at the chest as the most striking feature.

Formosan Black Bears are normally found alone, mild and independent in attributes. Thy are good at climbing upward trees. They do not hibernate in most cases. They hold no specific arenas as well. Formosan Black Bears take extensive habitats in elevation ranging from 1,000 to 3,500 metes. Compared with other wildlife. Formosan Black Bears significantly better orient themselves to environments. Nevertheless, they are critically endangered, narrowly on the verse of extinction amidst the spoiled environments and uncontrolled hunting.
